What is MLA Style?

MLA Style is the bibliography format utilized by the Modern Language Association. It is the most common style used today. Promoting the study and teaching of language and literature is the primary goal of the Modern Language Association.

MLA Style: Basics

Works Cited page must begin on a separate page at the end of the research paper

The page must be labeled Works Cited and the words must be centered at the top of the page. Do not underline or do any other formatting to the words.

Must provide enough information, if an article appeared in print and online form, that the reader would be able to locate both forms easily.

Capitalize each word in the titles of books, articles, etc...

Do Not Capitalize conjunctions, articles, or prepositions unless it is the first word in a title or subtitle

Books and magazines, or other large sources, should be italicized or underlined.

Small sources, such as poems and articles, should be wrapped in quotation marks.

Entries are listed by Author and should be formatted with last name first.

All entries must be double spaced
