What is the CBE Style?

The style is based on the rules set forth by the Council of Biology Editors and is used mainly for science writing. There are two systems available in CBE Style. The first one is the Citation-Sequence system and the second is the Name-Year system.

CBE Style (Citation-Sequence): Basics

Unlike other styles, the reference page begins after the last written portion of the paper. NOT on a new page.

The title of the reference list should be aligned with the left margin.

Entries should be single spaced.

References should be listed in numerical order, the order in which the appeared in the paper.

References may be aligned with the left margin, numbers may be aligned with left margin with lines indented slightly, number and first line indented slightly with following lines aligned with the left margin.
